April 2017: The Cam City WI AGM and Resolutions Session

Our 2017 Cam City WI AGM and Resolutions session was crammed with ‘business’ this year!

Members heard and adopted reports outlining the previous year’s finances and meeting activities, from our much loved and outgoing Treasurer, Gillian, and our super Secretary, Margot! We heard from Lisa, our 2016/17 President about how the past year had developed; she expressed how plans are progressing to make 2017/18 even better, building on the changes and the work that committee has been doing for members behind the scenes.

We welcomed our guest tellers Shani (from Ladybirds WI), Jo (from Blue Belles WI) and the omnipotent force that is Joanne (now of Gothic Valley WI in London!) – they formally presided over the re-forming of our Cam City WI committee and the re-election of our President Lisa for her second year! 

The 2017/18 committee members are:  Lisa H (President), Margot R, Nikki B, Helen L, Molly H, Gaynor M, Mel R and we welcome along Harri W (joining as a brand-new committee member!).  All looking forward to working hard to plan awesome things for the year ahead for Cam City WI members. 

We thanked Gillian heartily for the past three years in the real ‘job’ that is Treasurer and wished Nikki, who will be stepping up into the role, all the best for keeping us on track for the coming year!  We said a sad goodbye from committee to Sarah N, but we’re happy to say she shall still be running our Book Club! 

We spent a good portion of the meeting going forward with the formal voting process for national WI Resolutions.  Lisa and Margot helped members to understand the two proposed Resolutions – ‘Alleviating Loneliness’ and ‘Plastic Soup’ – with questionnaires, video and a formal discussion leading to member voting.  The vote results will be provided to our representative attending the National WI AGM on our behalf.  In summary, we voted against taking forward the 'Alleviating Loneliness' Resolution based on the current wording and scope, and voted for the 'Plastic Soup' Resolution as generally a positive scope for high level national action supported locally.

During this busy AGM we also got to see the results of our Craft Swap project!  A number of willing crafty members had six weeks to create a work of personal craftiness for a ‘swap buddy’, based on a little insight about their likes, dislikes and crafty preferences! It was great to see the surprised and happy faces (only one was disgusted!) at the efforts of friends!  There was such a fabulous array of skills shown – from Amigurumi crochet, a fabulous stegosaurus knitted motif on a needle case, and cross stitched keepsakes; to patchwork, bag making and toy making! Plus awesome shark slippers(!), a super hot pink Dragon and a felted Narwhal with glow in the dark horn!  Big round of applause for such hard work and thoughtfulness.
