April 2018: The Cam City WI Annual General Meeting  & Resolutions Session

Our April meeting was the Cam City WI AGM - the annual 'business' type meeting with a more formal feel - but with the definite laughter lifts that we've come to love at every Cam City WI meeting!

Committee Officers, Lisa H (President) and Margot (Secretary), took the group through the agenda to hear the Treasurer's report for 2017 (healthy figures of spending vs income through membership and fundraising!); the Committee Report (a fantastic and fun look back at how our programme is delivering against the formal aims of the WI) and the President's address.  Lisa H, took the time to thank our outgoing committee members, Gaynor, Molly, Nikki and Harri, for all the hard work undertaken for the group and reflect on her time as President for the second year running.  All reports were adopted by members, the 'formal' part of the process of the AGM.

Margot's speech was super engaging which made playing 'Buzzword Bingo' for egg-sellent prizes all the better!

Our break was a consumed with JAR-Bola! An impressive queue formed to win a Jar filled with awesome-ness! Everything from Popping-corn to a 'Spa in a Jar', from an aquarium-terrarium to pretty buttons!

It was back to business to finish off the AGM with the forming of a new Committee - Lisa H, Margot, Helen L and Melanie R stood to indicate they would remain as committee members for another year.  New, and very much appreciated, volunteers Marie D and Sarah C stood to join them for the coming year! Members were then asked to nominate who, from the standing committee members, they would like to see as President.  Lisa H, Margot, Helen L, and Melanie R all received nominations, but it didn't take long for the committee to reveal that Lisa H would be uncontested and re-elected as President for a third year! Congratulations Lisa!

We kept up the pace and headed into our Resolutions discussion lead by Gaynor.  There is just one shortlisted resolution in 2018 that will be voted on at the National WI AGM in June 2018 - 'Mental Health Matters'.  Members were given an information presentation and quiz on the subject to help them come to a decision to vote for or against.  Our votes were cast and noted.  This year Cam City WI will be sending a representative to the National WI AGM.

As always, the meeting was an excellent opportunity a catch up with old friends and new.  Despite a more formal format for a monthly meeting, we think attending the AGM is an important part of being a part of your WI - because the WI is what members make it - and having an understanding of how it comes about is good for our members.
